I have an 8 year old, 10 year old, and 17 year old at home. My husband and I play this game with all three kids and we have so much fun we end up rolling on the floor laughing! This game gets unbelievably fast! People start screaming and slamming letters and yelling words! My 8 year old daughter has a hard time keeping up with my teenage son plays but she still loves it and laughs the whole time! We keep the iphone handy so we can look up words on [...] when we get in a spot where nothing seems to work. Most of the time that doesn't happen, unless my teenage son picks a word.. like aged. Anyway.. we love this game and highly recommend it! We are going to see if it works to put two decks together and double the people (10) at Christmas time. Will be interesting to see how crazy it gets with my grown daughters and my son-in-laws. As far as educational value, I've even learned words. If you get in a bind you end up making up a work and half the time, it's a real word and i read the definition aloud so everyone knows it for the rest of the game. You MUST get this game!

The premise of the game is to build four letter words. There are alot more than you think. I tried doing a round with five letter words and didnt get too far. I presume they did their homework in picking four letters. Its a fast pace game, it gets a bit dull when the players start throwing down DULL, FULL, DULL, FULL, etc. Repeats are allowed so it can get repetitious. Two player games are hard to come by so for a couple bucks, its worth it to pick it up to entertain yourselves a couple of rounds for a half hour or so.

I've noticed a lot of other reviews of the this product complaining that the lid doesn't snap on. That is true, but I haven't found it to be a problem. My son loves to play with the pieces, the lid, the container. While he isn't at the stage yet where he is "sorting" the shapes, he still enjoys the toy. And I think the fact that he understands how to take the lid off to get the shapes out shows he is in the know.

I will say I would never pay retail price for this or many other toys. I got this one in like new condition at a mom 2 mom sale for $1.00.

As for the toxicity issue, well, we try to do our best to be mindful of these things, but unfortunately, it is almost impossible to know what is really in a product. If you are really concerned, don't buy any plastic toys. On that note, when we do pay retail price for new toys, it is always for natural or wood toys, not plastic! Fisher Price doesn't need any more money then they already have ;)

My daughter enjoyed this for the first five minutes, but once the container was full and we went to empty it, we couldn't get the lid to stay on. It will stay briefly if you lock the blue handle over it, but then kids can't see all of the shapes. There are much more fun shape sorters out there that actually work for more than a few minutes.

My one major "beef" is that the top doesn't snap on. So when my son gets this toy he immediately takes the top off, dumps out the block and crawls away.

We got the garage/car and had no trouble with the car coming out of the garage, but after that the hamster could not get the car to go forward, just backwards. You could hear the wheels spinning trying to make it go forward, but it couldn't move the car. And the garage top falls off if you look at it cross-eyed. We packed it up and took it back to Walmart, along with the exercise wheel, surfboard and sleep dome.

I ordered this toy when my daughter was 9 months old, thinking we could use it as a take-along lullaby box when we travel. The music bits are too short and the lights too bright for this to be a sleeping aid, but my daughter absolutely loved it as a toy and still happily plays with it after 2 months. She even hugs it! One of our better buys, highly recommended. Oh, and it's also durable. It must've gotten thrown on the floor 400 times by now and it still works well.

My son has enjoyed this toy from the time he was 3 months old until now when he is 2 years old. The music is not annoying and the lights are good to keep the kids' attentions. The little colored "buttons" are not actually separate... just one big button. With each consecutive click of it you get the next song. My son quickly learned how to get to his favorite song.

He puts it to his ear sometimes and pretends it's a phone. That worries me a bit because of the level of the volume. Aside from that though I have no concerns about this toy.

After awhile the button seemed to get gummed up underneath. Maybe something spilled on it?? So now you have to push on it kind of hard to get it to play for the first time after it's been sitting awhile.

I can only remember changing the batteries once - which doesn't mean they didn't get changed more often - but it does mean it's not a battery hog :)

It's great to bring in the car because it's easy for them to hold in the car seat.

this toy may seem less than stellar but it was amazing for my son! It entertained him when nothing else would when we were out (he's a happy baby but NOT easy going). We brought it everywhere till he was about 8 mos old and he has sucked all over it, chewed on it, and dropped it more times than I can count. I would recommend it for anyone with an infant or baby. We used it before he was even following objects till well afte. Now, it's not as much of a distraction but he does still enjoy it...he's 8 mos old and it was a great gift!!

"The Good and the Bad" 2009-10-20

We've got pretty much all of the accesories for the Zhu Zhu pets. The wheel actually does not move freely very well but the hamster will go down the tunnel get on the wheel and run in place then back down the tunnel. At first I was very dissappointed that the wheel wasn't really spinning (it does move but spinning is a stretch) but my 4 year old didn't seem bothered by it. now I actually kind of prefer this one because it's one that actually keeps the hamster contained in the funhouse. The slide lets the hamster out onto the floor as does the car and garage which is fine if you have a very large area for the whole set but the hamster runs better in the plastic pieces. As for durability the slide and garage are constantly coming detached (the 2 year old tends to knock them around) but this one has stayed attached pretty good, maybe because the tunnel is shorter than others. If you're not familiar with these you should know the accessories are snap together pieces - the plastic isn't flimsy but the fact that they just 'snap' together means they also snap apart rather easily. So while the accessories are constantly coming apart or detached they aren't breaking (which is good) but my 4 year old can't really snap them back together on his own so it's more work for me.

I looked on youtube and saw that the wheel was working for the families that were on there. It looked cute and real so I got one for my daughter. I set it up as the directions told me to. The wheel never spun freely. The hamster will get in the wheel, get stuck, and back its way out of it. Complete disappointment to me but most importantly a disappointment to my 4 year old. The car and garage has some issues too but still works somewhat. The wheel doesn't not work at all for us. So if you purchase this product its sort of like playing the lottery. If it works you're one of the lucky ones. If it doesn't, you're stuck with a piece of crap.

Pros:

-Mine didn't come with batteries

The Mindflex is more of a novelty than an actual toy, but for a first generation toy, it is quite interesting. The intent of the "game" is to control a ball through a series of obstacles set up by the player. The height of the ball is controlled by the headset, which measures Theta brain waves - 30-50 Hz electromagnetic waves associated with concentration. The more you concentrate, the stronger the Theta wave signal and the higher the ball is elevated by the console fan. When trying to control the ball, there is a noticable 2-3 second lag in response time. This is most likely due to the long sampling time required to measure such a low frequency signal.

The thing that makes this toy revolutionary is the "dry" EEG sensors in the headset. EEG/EKG sensors have been around for years, but they usually require some type of conducting gel (i.e. medical goo) to ensure good electrical contact with the skin. The sensors Matel use were developed by NeuroSky. These sensors are small metal devices which connect to the ear lobes (providing an electrical reference) and a single sensor at the forehead (the control signal). While the sensors may be revolutionary, they make the headset very uncomfortable to wear. Wearing the headset more than 5-10 minutes will result in a headache as the metal sensor digs into your forehead.

All-in-all, the Mindflex will provide a few hours of entertainment, and then finds its way to the back of your shelf. Even so, the $80 list price is worth it for those who want to get their hands on the lates in toy tech.

My child received this for their 7th birthday and loved it! However, they love all the Bakugan stuff, so that's not so surprising. That this can be connected to make one big toy is pretty cool, and more single Bakugan balls are coming out that can connect to these also. Bakugan is doing a good job of keeping their ideas fresh, and creative. We don't watch the cartoons, as they are too mean-spirited. The toys by themselves are fine though.

The price point on this is a tad high, which means it ends up being a "special" gift, and not an every day one, so they aren't selling very many. It's obvious a lot of thought and skill goes into creating these plastic balls that "transform" instantly into creatures (when put on any metal surface.

They have already designed more of these- the next one being silver or gray or something.

First let me say that I'm more frustrated with the REVIEWERS on here than I am the ball!! I came on here trying to find out if the ball is worth buying only to find complaints about the prices of 3rd party sellers! I bought the ball w/o having any answers b/c 90% of the reviews had nothing to do with the ball! It affects the rating of the product, which ALSO hurts the manufacturer! This is a place to REVIEW THE PRODUCT, people!

That being said, this ball is frustrating. The hamster itself is adorable. We've had no problems with the ACTUAL hamster or other accessories.

To use the ball, a parent must attach a plastic piece that comes with the ball to the hamster to keep it weighted down so it doesn't flip over while it's being used. The problem is that the hamster still flips over whether wearing the piece or not. Also, the piece falls off all the time as it is not held on my anything, just "fitted" where you are supposed to put it. My other complaint is that when you are ready to put the hamster in the ball, you have to press the button on it's back and quickly fit the ball's lid on the ball. This is difficult to do b/c if you are tilting the ball at all while doing this, the hamster flips over immediately and you have to do it all over again. It would be good of the hamster had a delay so you could get the lid on and set the ball on the ground before it starts going. Lastly, all of these issues make it difficult for a child to play with this by themselves. I have a baby, so stopping to fix the ball 20 times is not feasible.

I gave the toy 3 stars because it is still cute and my kids still like it even though they get frustrated by it. I also wanted to balance out the reviews of other people who aren't writing anything about the toy!

I bought this for my granddaughter. She adores it and her mother does, too. Imagine having a hamster - with no cages to clean, nothing that runs during the night, and no food -- if you don't count batteries.

At this point we're not sure how long it will last. She's six now and probably her interest span is at most six months. Who knows, though, she may graduate to real live hamsters and become a vet?

The concept is great; however, the ball is very difficult to take apart & put together, which has to be done every time the kids want to put a new hamster in. There is also a tiny plastic piece that is not attached to the ball but is necessary for the pet to use the ball. This little plastic piece will be easily lost. My six month old daughter LOVES her Sophie.

Yes, it looks and sounds like a dog toy, but it is also made of safe materials and I am sure dog toys are not given the same care. My daughter does occasionally get a giraffe leg pretty far into her mouth and it makes her gag, but she's not really choking. Sophie's body gets in the way and it's not like she could swallow it.

We actually like how much interest the dog is showing in the toy (thanks to the squeak) because it's given us a great opportunity to make sure the dog understands that whatever the baby has (no matter how exciting it may look/smell/sound) is absolutely NOT hers. It's worked really well.

Sophie is perfect for teething because it has just enough flexibility, it is easy for my daughter to hold, and it is clear it makes her teeth feel better. I say register for it for a shower or birthday and hope someone buys it for you, so then you don't have to worry about whether or not it is overpriced.

Best [...] bucks we've ever spent on a baby toy. We got it for our daughter when she was 4 months old, and 5 months later she's still in love with it. She drags the legs across her gums, and Sophie's neck is perfect for little hands to clench. It can be hard for baby to maneuver at times -- one giraffe leg will be in her mouth while another leg pokes her in the eye -- and it does smell sort of weird, but it's not offensive (and my baby sure doesn't mind). Glorified dog toy? Sure. But if the house was on fire and I could only pick one toy to save for the baby, it would be Sophie.

This toy is the perfect toy. My 3-month old grandson can hold onto it and when his mom is desperate, she'll have him suck on the face, because the shape is good for that. While babysitting a very unhappy child (not my grandson) I stuck his Sophie's foot in his mouth, and instantly he went to chewing away on it and peace prevailed. It's soft but durable and the neck and legs are great for little hands to hold on to. I suggest getting 2 and keeping one put away in case one gets lost, because the little guys get attached to Sophie right away.

I work at a toy store and these toys do sell out fast!! Once they are in, they are out the same day. They are fun toys, but expect them to be hard to find, they come in fast, but leave the shelves the same day. Also, you are limited to a certain amount at some stores. If next time an associate tells you that fellow teammembers are buying them and selling them at a profit online. Report it immediately to the store supervisor/director. If an associate buys these items (most likely using their employee discount)and then sells them online they are misusing their discount and can be terminated. Where I work that is what happens. The store manager or supervisor can implement these rules on their employees and are within in their right to do so or at least limit their quanitites. Don't let them get away with it!!

First of all, I was shocked at how much these cost on here but soon realized it's not Amazon, but vendors trying to take advantage of the demand for Zhu Zhu Pets. It's the Wii story all over again and once again, I'm not putting out more than what these usually cost. I got my daughter Num Nums at Wal-Mart for 1/4 what one would cost me here right now. I think I'll wait!

Anyway, the Zhu Zhu Pets are a great toy for my 4 year old who wanted a hamster and good for me too, seeing that I do not want a smelly rodent to clean up after. They're cute and I love the names. I finally found a Num Nums @ Toys R us for only 9.99!

I was so excited to get it to my granddaughter Gracie, so I opened the package and put Num Nums in my purse. When my granddaughter came by me I pushed the little nose and out came this little peep from in my purse. Well then we were OFF! Out came Num Nums and scooted all over the floor, like a mini bumper car. Our 2yr old Gracie was squealing with delight and jumping up and down clapping her hands! To describe her as delighted, would be a gross under exaggeration. We thought she might have a toddler breakdown she was so tickled! The adults were cracking up and of course Num Nums was non stop. It was an absolute riot and the cutest little toy I have ever seen! Its an amazing little hamster that will just go and go and makes all these ADORABLE little sounds. I can definitely for see Zhu Zhu "olympics"..or other activities creative playtimes come from these little creatures.

She had a hamster (not Zhu Zhu) toy that she just loved, but it only rolled around in it's ball, and this seemed like a big step up from that. The problem came when we went to find and buy it. No one had any! They were listed on several big toy carriers websites, but were always sold out. I finally found it, alot more expensive than the other websites, but alas, availible. Obviously raising the price since they are so popular. But, I only wish now I had bought more hamsters, and more of the sets. Because apparently they are the toy of 2009, and you can't find them anywhere!! This would be the perfect gift for Christmas, and even though they cost a bit more, the cost was equal to the enjoyment and totally worth paying. I even had a good time with it. All the different noises it makes depending on where it is in the "maze" is so neat. Sometimes it gets a little "stuck" so you have to move it a bit, but I think if you have more of the pieces it would work better. I just think the different play sets you can buy should've had the hamster included. Some of them are pretty expensive for what you get. But again, my daughter loves it. One small tip, which seems like a no brainer, keep the wheels away from your hair.

After my 2 year old saw the video of these online she got all excited so I bought her one. I did pay twice retail ($16.00) but I figured that still wasn't bad compared to what they are going for. As soon as it came in the mail she went crazy when she saw him so I opened him and up and at first she was scared of him until she realized he was a toy and would not hurt her. Now she LOVES him! She loves to chase him around on the floor and hold him and make him "talk". For Xmas she is getting the bed, carrier, fun house and ball.

I do watch her with her Zhu Zhu because hair could get wrapped around the wheels so she is never allowed to take him to bed. So if your toddler would put this toy in his/her hair I wouldn't get it for them, if not then give it a try. There are no loose little parts and he has been dropped quite a few times and does just fine. I would definietly recommend these critters.

We purchased this dollhouse after looking at many & by far it is one of the best dollhouses we have seen. It is well made, pretty & BIG! Santa brought it for my 3 y/o daughter & she was thrilled :-) Very easy to assemble & there are tons and tons of accessories available to buy for it. My daughter (3 1/2 years old) got this for Christmas and has played with it every day since! She loves it and so do other kids that come over. Prices on Amazon are extremely inflated though! My big disappointment is that I am having trouble finding the furniture at a reasonable price for my daughter's upcoming birthday. Lovely Dollhouse
The Grand Dollhouse was purchased as a Holiday gift for our 3yr old granddaughter. She simply adores it and plays with it every time she comes over which is at least 3 times a week. Her uncle gave her 4 rooms of furniture so she has plenty of redecorating and rearranging to do. The best feature is that it closes up so nicely storing all the furniture and accessories safely and out of the way. It's nice to have something special at grandma and grandpa's to play with and this is perfect and will be for years to come.

My 4-year-old daughter LOVES this dollhouse...and so do I. It's taller than her, bright and colorful, plus it's contructed very well...nice and solid. Best Toy I've Ever Bought!
I bought this castle as a Christmas present for my (almost) 4 year old daughter. This is most definately the best toy I've ever purchased! Since she opened it that Christmas morning, she has played with it every single day. It is extremely well constructed, made out of beautiful sturdy wood. I find that I like it better because it promotes imaginative play and isn't annoying like those other toys that make loud noises and flash like crazy. It is terribly simple to put together as well - the castle is basically already constructed, except for the two towards at the very top and the half arch like bridge that connects them together.

I must say that I did not, however, purchase any of the furniture items or the dolls that are supposively used for this castle. Instead, I bought the plastic figurine sets made by Disney. They are the perfect size to play in the castle. I recommend buying those as well if your little girl, like mine, believes that she is a missing Disney princess.

To get to the point, this is a fabulous, sturdy toy. I would recommend it to anyone. Thanks Melissa and Doug!

Great Doll House!
I purchased this dollhouse for my Granddaughter when Amazon had it on sale before Christmas. It took my daughter about 1/2 hour to set it up, and my granddaughter immediately started playing with it, she's 2 1/2.

Although the parts fit normally without glue, glue is recommended some parts for "younger kids" who are more likely to pull it apart. For example, my granddaughter loves taking out the staircase and using it like a piano, and pulling off the balconies.

Note that the dollhouse is over 2 feet tall and is 2 feet wide. Since my granddaughter is short, having the top open, means she can look directly into the top floor, which is her favorite floor to play with at this point. I'm very glad for the chunky solid furniture, since she's still pretty young and would easily break the fancier stuff. But the dollhouse is nice enough that we can incorporate the fancier furniture later when she grows up.

I would recommend it for any young child, since it can be played with instead of put up on a shelf and looked at.

My only caution is to price-check this item (and others) before buying it. This particular dollhouse shows up at least twice on Amazon at two very different prices. The price from Amazon as seller has varied greatly in the last two months. It can be either a wonderful deal, OR it can be purchased locally for less.

But, however you choose to buy it, this is a wonderful gift from a great company.

Great doll house, check your parts first!
Thank god I know how to use tools, because I got a box containing two right side walls and no left side wall. In order to assemble this to help Santa out for Xmas, I had to install the one wall flipped upside down so that all the slots matched up. Unfortunately this also meant that I had to do some precision drilling for the roof holes. My daughter was thrilled to find this on Xmas morning, thanks Santa! For the price of this doll house it is a little annoying to see the one side of the house with a window on the first floor and a door floating on the second floor thanks to the wall being flipped upside down.

If I got all of the correct pieces in the box I'd rate this 5 stars, keeping in mind Santa got it here on sale for a very low price. My 2 year old stood there for a good hour playing with this doll house on Xmas morning ignoring all other gifts. She totally loves it. The quality and craftsmanship are fantastic. I'll update my review if the company sends me a replacement wall. I've contacted them but haven't heard back yet.

Good dollhouse
I got this dollhouse for my 4.5yr old daughter for Christmas - She loves it. Very well made, beautiful colors, comes with some basic furniture & a family of dolls. It was very easy to assemble - around 30minutes. The roof, stairs & balcony are just attached with 2 little pegs - not so firm attachment. If you plan to move the dollhouse a lot from room to room, you may have to secure it with glue.

I must add that I got this piece for a great deal during Christmas sale [...] If you get this product for a good price, it is definitely worth it.

My 2 year old loves it!
My two year old daughter LOVES this dollhouse. It is perfect for her. The people are easy for her to maneuver and she will play for 30 minutes or more at time with this toy! The pieces are big and chunky and great for toddlers.

I bought several of the rooms to go along with it. Do not pay over retail price for the extra rooms. People were listing them for $40+ and I easily found them the week of Christmas at my TRUs. I bought the baby room, the TV room, the Mom and Dad's room, and the Grandma piece. More furniture than that would not fit in the house.

My only complaints are that the doorbell doesn't work. Also, I wish the windows had functionality. Lastly, when the house arrived it has a back piece that extends the main floor. This piece is plastic and has stress marks (white) in it. It came that way. I wasn't about to send it back for that.

Dollhouse
I bought this for my niece because my daughter got one last year, 2007. The new version, however, does not have a functional doorbell or telephone. Those to features are why my daughter loves hers so much. I do not recommend this new version. My niece still wants my daughters over hers.

Wait and buy the Grand Dollhouse
I actually bought this from Fisher-Price's web site (since it's about half the price there) after reading the reviews on Amazon.

I think this dollhouse is a compromise that doesn't quite work. It's supposed to provide some step between the Little People dollhouse (hardly any real-life details, but very safe and durable) and the Grand Dollhouse (lots of real-life details, but too many little pieces). I wish I'd waited and just bought the Grand Dollhouse. This one doesn't have enough detail or realism to keep my two-year-old interested. My biggest disappointment has been that none of the furniture in this or the add-on sets really fits the contours of the dolls, so it is very difficult to balance the dolls at the dinner table or on the rocking chair in the nursery set. Even the parents' bed (in the add-on set) is too small to hold both parents, and requires some balancing for even one parent. And the baby doll is so large in relation to its parents that it is pretty much impossible to get the baby to sit on the parents' laps. So all the scenarios my daughter wants to act out are physically pretty hard to set up. I would have thought Fisher-Price would take care of those details. Rather than being a toy my daughter can play with unaided, I found this to be a toy that requires a lot of parental help to keep her interested.

Also, it just would have been cool to have a few neat features that could be played with. The phone is just stuck to the kitchen wall, the nursery toys are glued down or together. I wouldn't think I'd care about a non-working doorbell, but the thing actually LOOKS like it is pushable, so my daughter just thinks it's broken. I understand the need to keep all the pieces big enough to avoid choking... and that's where this just turns into a compromise. Too safe, not enough fun.

Blokus has come up with a number of different ways to play the game to make it more thrilling when playing with less than four players. Draft Blokus allows a player to use more than one color and Reverse Blokus reverses the entire game so that the person who places the least amount of tiles on the board is the winner. It can even be played in a solitaire version when one player attempts to place all of their pieces in a single sitting. A game of Blokus typically lasts a 30 minutes. As a practical feature, raised edges on the board help keep the tiles in place and allow convenient clean-up.
